Bi0Hazard: I would argue capitalism is best for individuals. Capitalism allows for the best social mobility. The other "isms" ensure better forms of equality. As I like to say socialism is for people who believe we should all be equally stagnant. If we are equal, there can't be a rich and poor. There is far more stagnation, economic regression, and limited social mobility in any society that emphasizes the needs of the state before individuals. Society needs rich and poor as we always need problems and conflict. Conflict and the problems of humanity forever engulf humanity to succeed. We talk away that struggle, we get stagnation, and then slip into regression.

True Capitalist Acolyte: Disagree in that I feel like people are motivated to improve their own lives (and thus stimulate the economy and technological progression) even when they do not need to compete against others. I can paint my own house without needing to one-up my neighbour in doing so.

The only economically sustainable system is built on Capital Accumulation.
There are two economic systems I know of that are built on this:
1. Capitalism
2. Market Socialism

Government socialism is not built on capital accumulation and is undesirable in such a system. The pleasures of society are usually not on capital accumulation. Capitalism has more incentives to work hard and produce more efficiently, government socialism has less incentives. Unless the pleasures of a government socialism society is focused on capital accumulation, government socialism can not have strong economic growth and technological development like capitalism. The best alternative to capitalism(if you don't like it) is market socialism.

admin: That is a theoretical example. If you don't intend to substantiate with facts I have no interest in discussing the matter because that is merely your opinion against mine which leads nowhere.
