I think that the moderate Syrian rebels are now all becoming extremists.

http://syriadirect.org/main/30-reports/1752-homs-fighters-abandon-battalion-after-pledge-to-islamic-state

An example is this moderate brigade based in Homs, but there are more instances of FSA and other "moderate" Islamist groups pledging allegiance to the Islamic State:

http://www.chamtimes.com/278242.html

"He said activists and opposition pages on the social networking sites that both Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade and Jerusalem Abu Mohammed Altilawy Biatha has announced to join Daesh (the Arabic name for the Islamic State)"

There were also reports that US-armed Moderate Rebels have also joined IS, supplying them with weapons given to them by the United States of America. But this is not all; the Islamic State is gaining ground around Daraa, and they launched a huge offensive on Deir Ezzor that is still going on. The only true "moderates" are the Southern Free Syrian Army. But even they are allied with J. al-Nusra!

I think that support for the "moderate" Syrian rebels should stop, and that the US should attempt to unite the FSA and SAA together, in order to launch a new reinforced offensive against IS.

What ye say, edeb8?

Well actually what happened was the extremist rebels joined ISIS, the rest were killed, and the remaining Free Syria forces control the populated area below Damascus and to the East of Allepo. Although ISIS has more territory than Free Syria, the moderates still rule over a larger population.

Blackflag: Actually, no. FSA withdrew from Aleppo a while ago, and FSA has retreated from Damascus. What do you mean by below Damascus? Like around Daraa and the Lebanese border? The Moderates are now desperately losing, btw.

The U.S. Military should take direct action against the Islamic State, Al-Nusra, and Assad's regime. Ensure that moderates (compared to Al-Nusra and Assad's brutal regime) take over in Syria. Meanwhile, Iraq would be made relatively safe again, and they wouldn't be around to stir up trouble in Syria.

Dassault Papillon: Russia and Iran will not allow that. If US attacks Syria, then Russia will go all crazy and ultimately threaten the US with bombs, leading up to a point of global warfare. Clearly, US is still attacking J. al-Nusra and IS. But an attack on Assad would ultimately lead to more opposition from the American people, and Russia. Gallup polls show that 54% of 'mericans oppose any direct military attack in Syria.
