This is the belief that numbers in your life (like your date of birth) play some kind of role in determining your future (other than, you know, the date of your next birthday). I bring it up because a pal of mine sent me a "free numerology report" spammy kind of message and I was entertained by it for a while.
It seems to me that often when something is poorly understood, people use it to claim some kind of supernatural power. Like how electricity was used to make claims that we'd use it to create supernatural monsters when that was first developed (Frankenstein). It's the same thing with mathematics. By throwing some numbers out there, quoting Pythagoras and doing some fractions, people can apparently be duped into believing stuff about their lives. Same with astrology, using stars instead of numbers (ie Venus is in the constellation Virgo - therefore there shall be much strife in your life for the next six weeks).
To prove the point about vagueness, I challenge anybody to reconcile how the two most important facts about my "birth number" (according to numerology.com) could possibly both be true:
one other person that is with you or is a heavy influence on you for your entire life. You might have a tendency to see your lover and yourself as one soul or one person...
you are likely to relocate to various cities or countries during your life and also entertain a number of life partners as opposed to just one soul mate.
(the weird thing is that the only possibility EXCLUDED by both statements - not having a partner at all - is the only one that applies to me)
Anyone here actually disagree with this?
