I have tried a policy debate and I detested it compared to a Lincoln-Douglass style of debate with cross-examinations. Opinions?

This is a Lincoln Douglas debate, this is how a cross examination is done in debate effectively. I have never seen so much determination in a live LD debate as this.

Keep responses short and Internet friendly, thanks(LOL).

Tophatdoc: Huh? I might be interested in some kind of policy debate. I wish there was a good way to simulate a court case

Priest of Swag: If you didn't notice, you have to have sharp ears to even understand what is taking place during a policy debate.

A trial? That is something entirely different from a debate.

Tophatdoc: Well, I just think the professional level of debating is in the court room. If there was a site where I could prosecute Amanda Knox (Fictionally), I would be there in a second

Priest of Swag: I think the professional level of mock trial is in the courtroom. Professional level of debating is more what you would call a politician.

admin: Definitely, but you can't deny, many if not all debating principles are applied in court cases. I don't know how intense criminal courts are in New Zealand.....

Priest of Swag: Criminal courts are equally intense everywhere in the world. It's criminal cases that vary in intensity. You're right that there's some overlap though.

Tophatdoc: Really? It was an intense murder case in Italy involving a US citizen. I swear, the media would not let that one up.

Priest of Swag: I remember hearing about it now, I don't know the details so I don't have an opinion either way.
