If a site were to go online compiling video documentation of dozens of violent rapes, should it be censored? Why should it be censored?

Crow: To protect the privacy of said rape victims, for one.

Two, there are people who would get turned on by watching that sort of thing. If they make a habit of watching rape videos, they themselves may one day become rapists. I think we can all agree that this world needs fewer rapists and not more.

Three, to protect the privacy of rapists who have served their time in prison and just want society to forget what they've done.

Four, it would serve no purpose. If the purpose is to expose the horrors of rape, it's already common knowledge that victims of violent rape are usually traumatised by the experience. IN FACT, since most rape in the United States is not violent rape, it would likely give people the wrong idea about the realities of rape in this country.

Fifth, you might actually encourage some rapists to go out and sexually assault some poor girl while having their buddy record it and post it on the internet in the hope of achieving immortalisation on your proposed website.

Dassault Papillon: Dude I watch asain porn and have never had sex with an asain chick. It doesn't follow and all the stats on porn show less rape is correlated with easier access to porn. Rape is already simulated in these videos. So I don't think watching rape would increase the incidences of it. We also should keep in account that in some rapes the attacker has not been identified, so releasing the videos as jerk off material may draw enough viewers that the attacker is identified and brought to justice. If the victim is known we can blur out their face, if unknown showing their face may help find them. Same thing with child porn

I don't care about the privacy of rape victims. They should protect their own privacy.

Liberty of information is something I do care about.

Two, there are people who would get turned on by watching that sort of thing.

Good for them. Maybe the site could even make money and support the economy.

If they make a habit of watching rape videos, they themselves may one day become rapists.

Porn does not cause escalation in everybody. Sometimes it even stops it with certain people.

Besides, rape porn already exists on the internet, it is just fictional. It isn't uncommon for rapists to film their rapes as trophies, but that stuff will never stay up on the internet.

Three, to protect the privacy of rapists who have served their time in prison and just want society to forget what they've done.

I don't care about violent rapists. If they want to conceal their actions, they shouldn't of made a film.

Four, it would serve no purpose. If the purpose is to expose the horrors of rape, it's already common knowledge that victims of violent rape are usually traumatised by the experience.

In my mind, the purpose was simply pornographic.

Fifth, you might actually encourage some rapists to go out and sexually assault some poor girl while having their buddy record it and post it on the internet in the hope of achieving immortalisation on your proposed website.

Those people would most likely already be rapists. The fact that they are recording their next rape is a bonus.

To be fair, pornography has perpetuated a rape culture.

Mostly the regular stuff, not the fetish porn. It confuses younger people about sex and sexual relations.

Crow: What society are you talking about? It seems to me that rape is frowned upon and illegal kn most western societies and not part of the culture?

Wylted: Sure, on-face it is.

In reality, the more sexualized our culture has become, the more women have been viewed as sexual prey, rather than free-thinking individuals.

No, freedom(liberty) of information.
Nobody should have the authority to tell people what they can and can't do.
