That Edeb8 shouldn't have ELO rankings

The Purpose of ELO
We have ELO for numerous reasons. They all get sunk under the same brick. ELO is a measurement of skill. To quote the administrator of edeb8: "It helps you understand the level of others." What about all the harms of ELO? ELO creates a hierarchy of good and bad debaters. It diminishes the incentive for good debaters to debate new debaters. In essence, ELO can be equated to a government control of the economy. The debating economy.

A Better Alternative
Can we find a better alternative to ELO? One that helps debaters understand the level of others, without all the negative effects? I think there is one way. One simple to implement and easy to produce. What if Edeb8 profiles had a debating portfolio attached as a tab? A page all about past debate experience, won/lossed debates on-site, and even comments and feedback history from other users on someones debating style? How compelling would this be? There's no doubt that a debating portfolio would be immensely superior.

Let's make this happen, and throw away the vein ELO number.

Even with my opponent's plan we will have no need to throw away elo. A good example would be DDO--which manages to feature the wins, losses, allows people to comment on others' profiles, and in general shows their debating experience. Yet DDO has elo too. So therefore my opponent's plan does not contradict elo system, it would merely improve the elo system, which would be great, but does not address the resolution. Thus my opponent has not upheld his BoP.

Today's a sad sad day
And he's up at the bay
A mysterious time to go away
Won't you sa-ay

He forfeited two rounds
Openin' himself to my pounds
Easily could lose
As he snooze(s)

Heyyyyyyy

Zappin' poppin' off his sockets
Shoot him off a rocket

Today's a sad sad day
And he's up at the bay
A mysterious time to go away
Won't you sa-ay?

He forfeited two rounds
Openin' himself to my pounds
Easily could lose
As he snooze(s)
