Does new years day hold any special significance for you? Or is it just another holiday? Is it good to have a time like this every so often?

What I find funny is that the "new year" could start at the beginning of any month. Technically, January 1st is no more important that October 1st.

To be fair in Ethiopia they have 13 months in the year, start years in September, and are currently in 2005.
