They have genuinely always been convinced that their body isn't them
This also highlights the main schism between our stances, besides the bullshit on how being transgender is mentally distressing but not a sign of mental illness (lol)

I am accepting ppl for who they are and you are not. I am the angel on the right shoulder and you are the devil on the right shoulder, and we're both blabbering into this confused and mentally ill manwomans ears.

Blackflag: I don't mean to use this example lightly, but suppose a man is sad over losing his job. Would you say he necessarily has a mental illness because of that emotional reaction?

Blackflag: Which is why they need to talk to a doctor or a psychotherapist so they can get to feeling normal again.

And the same thing was said to gay people once. It's normal for guys to like girls, there must be something wrong with you, we need to get you to a doctor!

Likewise, it's normal for guys to want to be guys, there must be something wrong with you, you need to go to a doctor!

Blackflag: Except when I got my dick circumcised it was because I wanted to appease God, not because I had some mental issues regarding my self confidence and body.

It was a personal choice you made to conform to your personal beliefs. Transgender people don't have mental issues, confidence issues, or body issues. They like their bodies in every respect other their gender being wrong. It's simply another personal belief.

admin: Is being sad as extreme of a reaction as declaring yourself a gender that you are not?

Blackflag: It can definitely be, but the key word here is reaction. Every reaction is equal and opposite to the action.

Why do you keep putting sexuality and sex in the same boat. In retrospect, I feel who you are sexually attracted to is, while a choice, something that is mostly harmless either which way you go about it. Now disillusions of being another gender can be dangerous, mostly for the person who is having the dissolutions.

Why do you think transgenders have the largest rate of suicide among their demographic (40%) and the highest rate of depression (75%)? It might have something to do with the fact that they are mentally ill and wildly unstable.

It was a personal choice you made to conform to your personal beliefs. Transgender people don't have mental issues, confidence issues, or body issues. They like their bodies in every respect other their gender being wrong. It's simply another personal belief.
If they liked their bodies they would deface them. It is disgusting, disgraceful, and loony. The very definition of transgender should be 'a mental illness that causes human beings to attempt to switch their gender because of growing insecurity and a self aware lack of confidence'

You always go off topic with this nonsense. Sadness alone isn't an extremity. Events that come along with sadness, like attempted suicide, violence, or mutilating your sexual organs out of insecurity, are examples of an extreme action.

I actually got the statistics from a friend of mine who considers itself of another gender, but I have some verifications that I just researched myself.

41% of transvestites in the US (although I hear the rate in the Phillipines is 60%) have attempted suicide: http://articles.latimes.com/2014/jan/28/local/la-me-ln-suicide-attempts-alarming-transgender-20140127
Over 50% of transgender youth have attempted suicide: http://www.yspp.org/about_suicide/statistics.htm

Blackflag: Because the same claims you're making now, were made decades ago of homosexuals. THEY used to have the highest rate of suicide, and it was because of how society treated them. The same is true of any other group society marginalizes, for better or for worse. Humans have a need to belong, and it's attitudes like yours that generate these suicides, not anything about the condition itself.

Your ascribing of particular traits to genderqueer people (unconfident etc) shows who's the most uninformed here really.

Blackflag: So to you, somebody who believes they were born of the wrong gender but does nothing about it is alright then, since they didn't take what you personally consider to be an extreme action?

I am calling it out as a false equivalency, and justifably so. A lot of people who haven't argued the "Transgender" question as much as I have tend to quickly use homosexuals as a relative comparison, and they just aren't in the same boat. I do believe that the suicide rate among homosexuals was never 40% though.

Humans have a need to belong, and it's attitudes like yours that generate these suicides, not anything about the condition itself.
So it is a condition? Glad we resolved that. I do admit that I can be somewhat rough on the mentally insane.

Your ascribing of particular traits to genderqueer people (unconfident etc) shows who's the most uninformed here really.
I don't recognize any of the millions of titles transvestites create to categorize themselves. All those labels are really just a mask for their insecurity.

So to you, somebody who believes they were born of the wrong gender but does nothing about it is alright then, since they didn't take what you personally consider to be an extreme action?
Nope, they aren't all right. They are mentally ill, and someone better explain to them what gender they actually are.

Blackflag: I don't believe the suicide rate is 40% for transgenders today in many more progressive societies. The less you ostracise them and respect them, the less they want to kill themselves. Goes for all people really. Be nice to people, and they feel better about themselves. That's how it works for deviant gender identity as it does for sexuality, religion, or just about any other personal belief.

Condition does not imply illness or disorder. Being male is a condition. Having brown hair is a condition. Speaking English is a condition.

Transvestites aren't genderqueer. Transvestites are people comfortable in their own sex, but who enjoy wearing clothing typically worn by the opposite sex.

If by your definition those people are mentally ill, then anyone sad is also mentally ill. You can't use the extremity of an action to distinguish what causes it to become a mental illness and then immediately reject that categorization in the next post.

Like really, under solely secular logic I could perhaps get why there are gay people, but transgenderism is just plain insanity.

Dassault Papillon: I start to feel a little bit uncertain when it comes to the level of about transableism (people who feel they should have been born disabled and do things like cut off their legs and stuff). I'd support more research into things like that. But transgenderism is pretty well established I'd say.

Dassault Papillon: It's interesting, isn't it? Heck, we have a transhumanist group on edeb8 for people who want to convert themselves to binary code! Odd to somebody like me, but far from the craziest thing I've ever seen.

The craziest thing I've ever seen is how many people seriously think it's a good idea to spend money on trying to kill other people, just because they might possibly in future do something that might inconvenience you.

admin: Nah. I made a debate on DDO about "transracialism" to just kind of poke fun at the transgender movement...and one year doesn't pass before people are going "transracialism is a real thing guys!". (In the United States there was a white woman who was part of the NAACP for several years until they realized she wasn't black, to which she responded "I identify as black.")

I mean, it's literally just denialism. People are born a certain way, and pretending to be something they're not is just foolishness. A ghetto boy can identify as a wealthy billionaire, but that doesn't mean squat.

Dassault Papillon: It is a real thing, and I was reading about it way before 1 year ago lol. In general people's bodies don't always match their identities. We accept some of those changes, like tattoos, and reject others, like people wanting different colored skin. It's all just social constructivism at work.
