A General Rule When Arguing

In my honest opinion, I think their should be one general when arguing. I didn't invent this rule. It has been restated by thousands of people, but for some reason people never follow it. When defeating an argument, you should only attack the argument, and not the person who made it. This is a logical fallacy, and beyond that, it is outright bad conduct. It is okay to reference the other party participating, but only in a formal manner, since debating is meant to be a formal thing.

Attacking credibility is a good way to squirrel a topic, and to make matters worse, people often vote by who is more credible. Not who had better arguments.
