I have no idea if this is a good or bad idea but would a request characters feature in debates be okay? Dimilarlu for the time extension request feature it would (obviously) require your opponent's confirmation and you'd have the option to select how much of an extension you'd like.
Like I said at the beginning, I'm not entirely sure of how good this idea is - it just came to a few minutes ago so I'd appreciate people's thoughts.
