Edeb8 makes history once again by being the first debate website to properly support Lincoln-Douglas format debating.
For those who don't know, LD is a popular format in the United States. It's notable for using variable-length rounds and an unusual CX structure.
On Edeb8, you can start an LD debate using the new "Format" dropdown. The dropdown will enable you to change from a custom format to Lincoln-Douglas. Over time I hope to add more custom format presets to the list - so people unfamiliar with, for example, BP debating can easily set up a BP debate.
Here are the rules for a Lincoln-Douglas style debate:
1. There are always 2 sides
2. At present, only text-based LD is supported
3. You cannot do an LD "quick debate"
4. The rounds are as follows:
PRO 1: 6000 characters
Cross-Examination (as per usual)
CON 1: 7000 characters
Cross-Examination (as per usual)
PRO 2: 4000 characters
CON 2: 6000 characters
PRO 3: 3000 characters
Note: There are 2 CX rounds, and they are placed differently to where CX rounds are usually placed
Note also: Pro gets an extra speech - character limits are variable from round to round
I invite people to try it out!
Let me know how your LD debates go.
