do we really have to save every species?

So this week, NZ got criticised because apparently we're not trying hard enough to save the Maui's Dolphin.

There's only an estimated 55 of the little guys left.

My question is this... Do we REALLY have a human obligation to try and save every species from extinction?

I mean, I kind of get why we feel we should try and save the ones dying because of our great big foot print, but the Panda is a carnivore who chooses to be a Vegetarian. They can only give birth once every two years, but its all good because they are notoriously uninterested in sex anyway. They usually give birth to twins but almost always reject one of them... I mean they're not exactly making a HUGE effort are they?
Maybe we should let nature take its course with some species?

Now that that's done and over what do you think? Should we try to save all the different endangered species?
Please excuse me as I'm not super creative when it comes to forum signatures.

I wouldn't say obligation, but it is sad when species go extinct.
There is one less unique element in the world.
