Freedom of Navigation Operations

The U.S. Navy is scheduled to challenge China's territorial claims in the South China Sea within the next few days by sending a ship into the waters claimed by China. The U.S. says it's doing this in the name of Freedom of Navigation for the U.S. Navy. Paraphrasing one top Navy brass: "The U.S. will sail, fly, and operate wherever international law permits."
