Of all the debates you've done, which one stands out to you as being your favorite?

admin: I proudest of the first time I defended bestiality.

However, I felt most satisfied with the ending of a debate about the evolutionary mechanism and irreducible complexity. Not many people are willing to go the whole way with me, but three - four guys (one of them an excellent debater with matching logical ability) tag teamed me. I evolved (or some would say devolved :P ) into lists 100+ points long specifying which other propositions they relied on. I developed novel mathematics functions to describe the measurements I referred to, successfully corrected every miss-characterization, pointed out and explained every fallacy, and in the end 2/4 said "well if that's what you mean I guess you're right."

I kind of wish that debate had never had happened, because since they I've always been looking for a similar depth in other issues, more important issues TBH. False hope it seems because that was five years ago and it hasn't happened since about any other topic.

Perhaps people arguing for 'evolution' see themselves as pro-science and felt compelled to keep going until their opponent rejects objectivity out right (which often happens :P ) while people who argue about politics, philosophy, and morality mostly have it in their mind that it is subjective (begging the question "what are you talking about it for?").

ADreamOfLiberty: (links?)

That sounds like one epic debate that would be fun to read.

Well with the exception of three naff ones on DDO, which I've done so that I can vote there for the WODC*, ALL of my debates are listed here.

I have a few favourites:
http://www.edeb8.com/debate/secret-topic-1/ : "There should be a legal age for using Cell Phones." - I felt that this was going to be SO hard. As it turned out, I really enjoyed researching it, and as a result of my research, I actually completely changed my own personal opinion on the issue.

http://www.edeb8.com/debate/secret-topic-18/ : "The Speed Limit on roads should be abolished" - Again, another hard topic. I was very disappointed to see this one end in a concession, I would have loved to see it play out. I had to really strategise in this one and forced myself to think out the entire debate before even posting my first round. I laid several traps for my opponent, most of which probably wouldn't have made a difference - but it was a fun exercise anyway. Over all, I had the comfort of knowing that I wouldn't have felt bad losing it either way.

http://www.edeb8.com/debate/RESOLVED%3A+The+Falkland+Islands+belong+to+Britain+%28WODC%29/ : "The Falkland Islands belong to Britain" - Another WODC debate. I felt like this time I had the stronger side, although from research in other debate forums, I knew that it was the least popular one. I actually think Krit was a little easy on me with the angle he took, but I feel like I managed my character count well and kept my case simple and clear - which has always been a weakness of mine. This was probably the case I was the most proud of.

My least favourite was one of my first:
http://www.edeb8.com/debate/%5C%22God%5C%22+does+not+exist/ : "God does not exist." - oh man. I wish I could just wipe this one out. It was embarrassing. Totally over thought the whole thing, was not a fan of the resolution going into it and having this up there for everyone to read for eternity is just sad. I did enjoy parts of it though, and I learned a LOT from it.

It's interesting to note that of all the debates I've done, almost all of them have been secret topics. I also find that I've enjoyed the ones where I'm playing devil's advocate the most. Not really caring if you win or lose allows you to concentrate more on your argument and is quite freeing.

I'm not sure if I trust anyone who doesn't have their face as their profile.

9spaceking: And you say I don't try on my debates! -_-

http://www.edeb8.com/debate/GMO+Salmon+should+be+approved+in+the+USA./ This debate (even with awful ff)

And a debate irl where I successfully proved my opponent's case to be untopical and won on theory. Yay! :D

Please excuse me as I'm not super creative when it comes to forum signatures.

Pinkie: Nice. Winning against Admin/Larz is not easy; there's a reason he's the unofficial Beast Slayer.
